How do phone jammers work?

A phone jammer is a device that cancels the signal sent between a cell phone and a cell tower. These devices effectively prevent the device from using cellular data to communicate with the outside world.

Phone jammers block the signal by overcrowding the radio frequencies that cell phones use to communicate. They can do this by sending the opposite radio frequency signals used by cell phones and cell towers. Thus, cell phones within range of the cell phone jammer will not send or receive calls and text messages.

However, many recent mobile phones also have other communication channels. Modern cell phones often have WiFi-assisted calling and messaging, and can connect via Bluetooth and communicate using GPS signals. In response, many jammer manufacturers have produced jammers that can block more than one method of communication.
